Self Portrait
The top pic was done last night, the bottom one today. I always find self portraits incredibly hard - it's awkward to measure anything in a mirror and difficult to look objectively.

The first sketch was done last night - I had a very busy day yesterday and didnt get to draw until about 9pm. I thought I wasnt going to get anything done and I might break the spell by having a day without sketching but just about managed to produce this while D was watching X2.
The second one was done this afternoon - what a beautiful day! We drove round all morning doing various chores and came back with toys for the rabbit then sat outside watching him play - his favourite was the shoe box we got with D's new shoes... I dont usually tackle boats - not my strong point - but I made a brave attempt at our neighbour's boat - something I wouldnt normally be bothered to do without the incentive of this blog. We are a bit worried about our neighbour as we havent seen him for ages...

Watching TV
I was feeling a bit discouraged about my drawing today after looking at so many wonderful sketchblogs. Then I watched the Ira Glass interview on You Tube (one day I will learn how to link to this!) and felt a bit better. Mind you I have been sketching on and off for years..... I feel as if I havent improved much. But I will keep trying!
My new art stuff from Heaton Cooper hasnt arrived yet - it's very difficult receiving parcels from a boat - it never quite seems to work. I just hope it hasnt got lost somewhere.

Animals
It's been such a lovely day today, and we were sitting outside the boat enjoying a glass of wine. I attempted to sketch my little menagerie, Chester the golden retriever, Molly the shih tzu and Binky the rabbit. It's the first time I've tried to draw Binky. I dont know how anyone can draw animals from life - they keep moving!

When I was a young enthusiastic art student I used to take my sketchbook everywhere and draw everthing - even things like rubbish in a bin and railway tracks! Nowadays I am a lot lazier, and when searching for a subject usually veer by default towards animals or people. I'm trying to get back that energy I used to have, and the passion to draw everything and anything. That's part of what this blog is about.

Molly asleep
This is Molly, my shih tzu after her morning walk. She was very reluctant to go this morning - she loves her comforts and its getting a bit cold for her now.
It occurred to me that I should be using a spiral bound sketchbook - much easier to scan. I've ordered one today with heavyweight paper that can take watercolour.
